Rotary Clubs seek watershed cleanup volunteers
While the Cass River plays a vital part in the greater Frankenmuth area, it is its tributaries that need to be maintained to create cleaner water and better recreational opportunities.
The two Frankenmuth Rotary Clubs, Noon and Morning, are co-organizing a Watershed Cleanup Project that will expand on the perimeter of the Cass River.
This community and environmental event will be held on Saturday morning, April 26 – the week of Earth Day celebrations. Club members and other community volunteers will be removing trash from ditches in the area.
“Those ditches are one of the first links in the overall Saginaw Bay Watershed,” Noon Rotary spokesperson Mike Redford said.
The morning will begin with members and volunteers staging at 210 North Franklin (the parking lot behind the Frankenmuth City & Township Government Center) beginning at 8:30am. This is a new location from past years, where the gathering took place in Heritage Park. At 9am, the volunteers will be furnished with their instructions and given trash bags.
Registration will take place 8:30-9am. Volunteers should register ahead of time to print out a waiver form and order their volunteer t-shirt. Please visit the following link, https://tinyurl.com/yutuuux4 to complete the forms and bring them that morning.
Before embarking on the cleanup effort, maps of the cleanup area will be handed out. Volunteers should wear bright clothing, bring work gloves, and wear heavy-duty boots, and be given trash bags. Long-handled rakes or other garden utensils will also be helpful in the cleanup effort. Volunteers will be assigned one or two-mile stretches of road in Frankenmuth Township.
