Progress for the New Social District continues to evolve

  The process of creating a Social District in Frankenmuth continues to evolve.

  At the March 2024 Frankenmuth City Council meeting, the council members passed a resolution allowing for the creation of a Social District.

  In Michigan, Social Districts were allowed during COVID-19, providing participating businesses to serve “to-go” alcoholic beverages. The intent is to create another economic tool, which may promote spending at the businesses in the district.

  The Frankenmuth Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has created a management plan, in step with the Frankenmuth Police Department, to oversee the operations of the Social District. This plan sets the criteria for signage and hours of operation. The city council passed the authorizing resolution with a vote of four in favor and two opposed.   ......
