FFD to take delivery of new Engine 2 next week

  After nearly two years in the process, the Frankenmuth Fire Department is counting the days until the arrival of its new Engine 2.

  FFD Chief Phil Kerns said Engine 2 will be delivered to a Freeland, Michigan dealer the week of May 6. While at the dealer, approximately 2-3 weeks of work must be completed before the new apparatus will arrive here and reside in the fire station. Ideally, the engine would be here in time for the annual Bavarian Sunday Parade on June 9 to show off to the community

  Kerns cannot emphasize enough that because of the skillset that the FFD’s Truck Committee brought to the table and regularly exercised during the process that the department will have delivered a new fire engine that met their detailed specifications, without incurring costly overruns, in an economy whereby inflation has made such a feat nearly impossible to do so.

  FFD Assistant Chief Dan Schneirla said he expects the total cost to come in at $719,000, which was the budget cost well over a year ago. .......
