Hales receives Teacher of the Year honors

Jamie Hales, 7th and 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher at E.F. Rittmueller Middle School, has been awarded the Michigan Council for the Social Studies Middle School Teacher of the Year Award.  She received the award on Friday, November 7, 2014, at a luncheon in Lansing.

Anthony Salciccioli, Michigan Council for the Social Studies Conference Awards Chair, stated that “she is commended for being an exceptional educator and this accomplishment should be celebrated!”

Hales has taught at E.F. Rittmueller for the past 11 years.  She served on the MEAP Social Studies Content Advisory Committee for five years, the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification Committee, has led the Eighth Grade Washington DC trip for four years, has guided the EFR Student Council for five years and serves as a member of the School Improvement Steering Committee.

Last year Hales received the Gerstacker Fellowship through Saginaw Valley State University, which has required a year of study and activities, including a trip to experience classrooms in China and South Korea.

Joining Jamie at the awards luncheon was her husband and two children along with Heather Brey, EFR science/ELA teacher/award nominator, Kristen Hecht, EFR Principal/award nominator, and Mary Anne Ackerman, FSD Superintendent.
