McKinstry is PPK state champ
Tyler McKinstry of Frankenmuth is a state Punt, Pass & Kick champion.
Tyler, the son of Karalee McKinstry-Masker and Gene McKinstry, began his run for the state title on September 24 at the Frankenmuth Parks and Recreation Department’s local competition, where he placed first in the boys age 8-9 division.
Frankenmuth also hosted the regional sectional competition on October 13 and McKinstry took first place. There were eight sectionals competitions across the state and from those eight sectional winners, per gender and age divisions, only four were invited to the NFL Team Championships.
On Sunday, November 24, McKinstry traveled to Ford Field as one of 40 overall competitors. The competition was held as part of the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers football game.
McKinstry’s final score of 190 feet took first place in the age 8-9 division.
According to Frankenmuth Parks and Recreation Programmer Janelle Wright, once all of the NFL Team Championships have taken place across the nation, the top 4 scoring participants in each gender and age division will be invited to compete at the National Finals in January.
Wright said this past fall over 400,000 youngsters’ nationwide competed, beginning with the local competitions. In its 52nd season, the competition involves youngsters ages 6-15.
