FYSA Park Development

City Council approves grant submission for recreation land

The Frankenmuth Youth Sports Association (FYSA) is back with a new plan for a scaled back recreation facility.

The Frankenmuth City Council approved a resolution for a Department of Natural Resources grant application for funds to acquire 36 acres of land north of East Jefferson Street and east of Weiss Street, north of Heritage Park.

A total of 75 percent would come from the grant, with 25 percent match coming from the FYSA. There would be no public funds used for the project, FYSA spokesman Chris Rittmueller said.

Basically, the plan is to extend Heritage Park with addition baseball and softball fields and possibly a pavilion in the future. It will be posted as a public park.

The grant application deadline is April 1, 2013, with a possible pay out in summer 2014. In April 2014, the FYSA could apply for funding to purchase the 10 acres of Frankenmuth Civic Events Council (CEC) property located immediately south of Heritage Park, if the CEC choose to sell the land.

The CEC acres, as well as land owned by the Bavarian Inn Lodge, was pulled out of the immediate proposal as neither parcels are contiguous to the 36 acres planned for recreation facility.
