Fish named Coach of the Year
Frankenmuth varsity football Assistant Coach Shad Fish was recently named a Michigan High School Football Coaches Association 2012 “Assistant Coaches of the Year.”
Fish was one of 26 in the state to receive the honor. Fish has been coaching 17 years, with the past seven as the Eagles defensive coordinator.
This season, FHS finished 10-1 overall, won the Tri-Valley Conference East Division and his defense held opponents to 9.1 points per game, including three shut outs.
Two other TVC East Division assistant coaches were also honored: Perry Baranic of Caro and Millington’s Lenny Dantinne. Other TVC coaches accorded the honor were Ithaca’s Craig Snyder and Swan Valley’s Tim Delisle.
FHS Head Coach Tim VanWormer was one of four Region 11 Coaches of the Year, sharing the honor with Reese’s Robert Saylor, Croswell-Lexington’s Jason Vandermass and Harbor Beach’s Troy Schelke.
Former Frankenmuth coach Ralph Munger, who has been with Rockford High School the past 20 years, was a Region 6 Coach of the Year.
The Eagle varsity was also one of 21 schools to earn Academic All-State status. The team compiled a 3.731 GPA. Birch Run also collected the honor with a 3.611 GPA. Individually, FHS senior kicker Bryce Frahm was an Academic All-State honorable mention choice. 667
