Cass River Greenway

CASS RIVER FIELD TRIP: The Nature Conservancy conducted a Saginaw Bay Watershed Project Field Trip May 7, beginning and ending its day-long study in Frankenmuth. In the morning, the 24-member group representing a diverse participant list met at the Frankenmuth Dam to hear from Cass River Greenway Committee Chairman Bob Zeilinger and fellow member Bill Zehnder discussing the committee’s work to date as well as the planned Cass River Dam renovation into a 350-foot rock ramp fish passage. Work will begin this August and be completed in September. Following lunch at the Bavarian inn Restaurant, the group traveled to Caro for a demonstration of biodiversity at Sucker Creek and strategic agricultural conservation practices in the upper Cass River watershed at the Kratz Farm, including demonstration of no-till farm equipment.     (News photo)
