   BIKES AND BARKS! The Memorial Day weekend is still sit aside to remember America’s fallen veterans but is also used to officially welcome spring with several events taking place in and around Frankenmuth. In addition to the four-day Balloons over Bavaria, the Tour de Frankenmuth (above and left) saw dozens of cyclists begin and end the races in downtown Frankenmuth, with the top class completing 80 miles through the city and into Frankenmuth Township. Sunday’s Grand Fondo di Thumb drew cyclists to courses as long as 130 miles, with that race ending near Pigeon. Above and right, Dog Bowl 2014 brought hundreds of canines and their owners to Frankenmuth to compete in several events, including the International Disc Dog Competition. Below, the Frankenmuth High School Marching band performs on Main Street as part of the Memorial Day Parade and subsequent service held inside the FHS gym. A large crowd gathered at the Veterans Monument and Memorial Wall during the parade and the bleachers were filled at the high school for the hour-long ceremony. (News photos)
